About the Work
What materials does Christian Schneider-Moll use?
Christian Schneider-Moll works exclusively with kiln-cast Czech optical glass – a highly transparent, dense glass that refracts and reflects light with exceptional clarity. The base containing the LED lighting is made from custom-fitted and hand-worked brass or aluminium, either polished, powder-coated or patinated.
How are the sculptures illuminated?
Each sculpture integrates a custom LED lighting system. The light source is embedded within the base of the object, illuminating it from within and revealing colors and reflections that only exist through light.
What is kiln-cast glass?
Kiln-casting is a process in which glass is melted and cast into a mold inside a kiln at high temperatures. The result is a solid, dense glass object with exceptional optical clarity – very different from blown or flat glass.
Where is Christian Schneider-Moll based?
The artist is based in Berlin, Germany.
